Is Coaching What You’ve Been Looking for?

I couldn’t move forward. There was no desire from within to make a sliver of progress. I had been given this gift of time but no way to push through the wall I felt of overwhelming options.


I just walked out of a long season of working in health care- working an 84 hour rotation of 12 hour night shifts.


Day after day. Week after week. Year after year.


New horizons felt daunting to begin as I still felt the lag of the season before; but I didn’t want to be stagnant and remain in the habits acquired from that draining lifestyle.


I needed to find a new way to live the life I dreamt of- to find a new course and new goals to brighten my path from the feeling of dimness that took over the season before.


It all felt so overwhelming. I didn’t have the energy to sit and process all the potential opportunities on my own.


How do I take the first step?


How do I begin to change habits and live the life I dreamt of?


My saving grace in this season stemmed from a class I was taking to get my Coaching certification where I was assigned to a peer group of students to practice our Coaching skills, while also receiving coaching.


One of my classmates and peer coach, Rachel, really helped me limber through these overwhelming feelings. When I started receiving coaching I was exhausted, sleep deprived, an insomniac, and had constant and unpredictable bouts of vertigo.


It wasn’t the life I wanted.


I had this opportunity to move forward but I didn’t fully know where to start and that’s where Rachel came in.


In this season of Coaching Rachel helped me take my life day by day and not feel overwhelmed with the immensity of it all. It helped me to pick and accomplish goals, and move me in the directions I wanted. Rachel became my cheerleader and encouraged me, while also being an accountability partner to help me through any obstacles that came my way.


Rachel empowered me to think through the big picture, to decide on practical day-to-day goals that would eventually get me where I wanted to be. She gave me a safe space to process through all the thoughts, to dream and come up with weekly action steps to get me where I wanted to be.


I became unstuck.

For me, Coaching not only helped me to reach my goals but it gave back my sense of accomplishment, it helped increase my self esteem as I achieved goal after goal and it gave me the drive I at times felt like I lacked.

As I have been studying and practicing the art of Coaching it has opened my eyes to an amazing avenue of helping others that I feel is real, practical and life giving.


I always felt with Counselling that it missed the mark of being the ministry on my heart in helping others, but when I discovered Coaching I knew that it was the missing piece.


As I’ve have been working towards my certification I feel like it’s only further acknowledged my gifts in this area to help others with Coaching.
